Here's one of its interesting features...
Quote:
One more interesting feature that will be available on the next-gen Focus is Dynamic Cornering Control. While torque vectoring has been increasingly used in high performance all-wheel-drive systems from Acura, BMW and Audi, Ford is applying the concept to the front-wheel-drive Focus. If it delivers, this should help provide even better handling balance with less understeer in the new compact.

Nicely done! That's a good take on the sedan... reminds me of the old 626HB.

My only complains is the triangular air intake vents in the bumper... are they functional or not? If not.. it looks a bit too cheesy. Plus the really busy look of the interior... the air vents looks too big to be used for a sedan.

Looks good, agree with M2 about the vents... they look too... umm... rice for me... plus they don't look like they have any function... Tongue out

Otherwise a good replacement for a very good car.

I'm guessing the low end and mid-range trim levels might use an all black lower grill.
Something like this perhaps?

Ford isn't talking mileage numbers for the next-gen Focus yet, but it clearly is a priority for the new car. With Chevrolet aiming for 40+ mpg on the highway for the the Cruze, Ford will surely be trying to match it. To that end, designers have also focused a lot on functional aerodynamics in addition to just aesthetic styling. One of the more interesting features are thermostatically controlled shutters behind the grille. At higher speeds when more air naturally flows through the radiator, the shutters automatically close and force air around the sides of the car.

looks good, and this time the sedan looks much better than the hatch.....

nitpick though, i'm not really sure about the front treatment... its like pressing two front car designs together. And the hatch's rear lights seems to be a mess but maybe that's their direction

It's a mini-Mondeo Tongue out

I personally like the Mondeo's looks in real life, especially the 5-door variant.

The sedan looks abso-****ing-fantastic. I don't really like the rear lights on the hatch, but it's very nice, anyway.

The triangular vents are OTT, and may change in the production model, but better that than Mazda's "smiley face" styling.

Yes, as AM pointed out... the designers might go with the C-Max lower grille, instead. I hope they do.

Based on this video of the pre-production prototype, maybe they really plan to use the 3 segment lower grill even on the standard Focus...

Yes, still better than the "smiley face" of the 3.

What we know so far is at its US debut, the 2012 Focus will have a naturally aspirated E85 capable 155hp 2.0 liter Direct Injection Ti-VCT engine available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Powershift dual clutch transmission.
For Europe expect diesel TDCi engine options (updated?) and small displacement EcoBoost engines like the 1.6 EcoBoost engines (to span the 150 to 180 hp power range) followed by a 1.2 liter EcoBoost.

A more powerful 2.0 EcoBoost is also expected to find its way into the upcoming Focus, a new ST perhaps?

We're still not sure what will power the 2012 ASEAN/Asia-Pacific Focus models. A TDCI option will most likely continue to be offered.
About the gasoline/petrol engines? One possibility is we'll get the small displacement EcoBoost engines another is to get naturally aspirated engines (hopefully updated with new tech like in the US version).

Seems like the 2012 Ford Focus will be sourced from Thailand:

http://www.bangkokpost.com/auto/autoscoop/182346/ford-to-build-production-plant-in-rayong

Most likely the next generation Mazda3 will also be sourced there..

It looks like the Thai government gives a little something special to attract investors even though they've been looking pretty unstable lately...

Anyway it looks like after the Focus production moves to Thailand, but the Mazda 3 production will continue here...
Quote:
Ford Motor has secured a loan from Thai banks to relocate its passenger car plant from the Philippines to Thailand, a banking source said yesterday.

Quote:
"The production of the Mazda3 will continue in the Philippines. Since the new factory belongs to Ford, we won't be shifting the Mazda3 production to Thailand. We'll continue to import it from the Philippines," said a source at Mazda Sales Thailand.

Mazda production stays here because the new factory in Thailand belongs to Ford?
Hmmm... doesn't the current plant here that makes the Mazda 3 also belong to Ford?

Thats odd, a Ford plant that might only be making Mazdas in the future? I'm guessing the Escape's replacement will also be made in the new Thai plant.

Yup!
Guess it probably goes like this...
(euro Focus gasoline engine lineup)
105 PS 1.6 Duratec Ti-VCT replaces the 100 PS 1.6 Duratec
125 PS 1.6 Duratec Ti-VCT replaces the 115 PS 1.6 Duratec Ti-VCT
150 PS 1.6 EcoBoost SCTi replaces the 125 PS 1.8 Duratec
180 PS 1.6 EcoBoost SCTi replaces the 145 PS 2.0 Duratec

Could this mean our gasoline engine lineup will be made up of Turbos only since the 1.8 and 2.0 engines will be replaced by 1.6 EcoBoost engines.

For those wondering if the 180 PS 1.6 EcoBoost SCTi is really a replacement of the 2.0 liter Duratec and not the 2.3 liter Duratec, the replacement of the 2.3 liter Duratec is the 203PS 2.0 EcoBoost SCTi which can be found in the upcoming facelifted european Mondeo, Galaxy and S-Max.

I really hope they offer it with the 1.6 ecoboost or tdci...unless they offer it in the fiesta...I also wish they'd consider offering m/t in the lower spec hatchback....barring any problems, this will be my next car Hooray

I actually like the triangular vents in front. It makes the car look unique and striking. Without it and the extended tail lights, it will still look good.... but a little too plain...
