my mom was about to bring me and my sister to our respective offices. We were about to leave tapos hindi na nagstatart yung car. We thought its the alternator or starter. Hindi rin umepekto yung "kadyot". So we had the car towed (c/o our insurance and ibero assistencia) to Toyota Shaw. To cut the story short, ang diagnosis ng Toyota Shaw was a defective Computer Box caused by moisture during the flood. Sabi nung service advisor namin (who has been servicing 3 corolla of ours for the past 15 years), they will try to remedy it or else antay kami ng one month kasi oorderin yung computer box. it costs Php49,210 pesos. Wala pang labor. Whaat Eek

Am just thankful for our insurance. Pinacheck namin kanina, covered yung car ng allied perils/acts of god, and we will be claiming it. Oh well, tiis muna, walang car for one month.

We didnt expect that after one month, bibigay yung computer box. According to Toyota Shaw, it happens kahit matagal na natapos yung flood. Sad

Ang mahal ng ecu ng corolla. Ang alam ko sa civic its only 35k.

Anyway, hope you get your car fixed Carlo. Dang effects of Ondoy still felt by most Filipinos on a perfect weather.

Where does the ECU located in most cars? Just wonder If I'm hitting it during car wash and underwash.

Most would have it installed behind the center console inside the cabin.

Some cars would have it on top of the engine itself, like the Mazda3.

The pin-outs will be different. But it depends... some cars use a separate ECU for the tranny, some have it incorporated in the PCM.

in other b and d series engines of honda, it is incorporated with additional pin-outs. if there will be no connection to these pins, do you think it will function?

Dba may Corolla ECU sa kahit anong sari-sari store? Rolling on the floor laughing

Seriously, that's LONG but am not surprised since am sure they'll only stock a few ECU units in their warehouse... are they getting it from Thailand or Japan?

I really don't know. It will either function or throw a CEL and refuse to start. The only way to know for sure is to try it, but my bet is on the CEL. If you know an AT owner who's willing to lend you an ECU for an afternoon, you can try it... but there might be some risk to his ECU if there are hidden defects or shorts in your wiring system from the flood.

Sayang naman if the car is running well and it has a spanking brand new ECU. Smile

Carlo, why did you not try checking for surplus ECU or having it repaired and the like? The 4afe is pretty common around.

After four months of non-use, don't you think the corolla might have developed other problems?

hopefully, there will be no more defects. we could have gotten the car today kaso coding (we reside in makati kaya no choice haha). Since the SA told us that the interior had some moldy smell so they have to clean it pa.

A lot of dealerships still have flood damaged cars parked on their lots. It really was hard for them to get all the spare parts needed.

it will start but will throw a CEL. for OBD1 ECU (92-95civic) you can remedy this by cutting a resistor and adding a jumper on the ECU mother board. For OBD2 either you use a piggyback EMS, or connect a relay to the terminals of the ECU to trick the ECU that the a/t solenoids are still there.
